SUMMARY:February Half-Term: Create Your Own Wassail Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Recreate an ancient winter tradition and hold your own lively Wassail Celebration in the orchard at Elgar’s Birthplace — a cheerful\, spirited gathering rooted in centuries of folklore and festivity. ‘Wassail’ derives from the Old English phrase ‘waes hæl\,’ which means ‘be well’ or ‘good health’. Historically\, communities would unite in the darkest months of winter to bless their orchards\, deter mischievous spirits\, and encourage a bountiful harvest in the coming year. From singing and dancing to making joyful noise\, wassailing was a means of waking the trees from their winter slumber and inviting prosperity for the season to come. \nIn traditional wassailing\, noise drives away bad spirits – use pots and pans and help fill the orchard with merriment! Raise your voices and sing a traditional Wassail song to celebrate warmth\, community\, and the promise of spring. Hang toast on your favourite fruit tree as a symbol of gratitude and to encourage a fruitful harvest. \nWhether you’re continuing a tradition or discovering a new one\, creating your own Wassail Celebration is an unforgettable way to brighten the winter and spread good cheer to all—trees included! \nCome back and visit The Firs during the Easter and Blossom celebrations to see whether your Wassail has worked! \nThis event is free\, but normal admission charges apply.

SUMMARY:La Bataille de Solférino (U) (Malvern French Film Centre)
DESCRIPTION:On 6 May 2012\, the day of the second round of the French presidential election\, TV journalist Laetitia is late leaving home for her assignment covering the events at the headquarters of the Socialist Party on Rue de Solférino when her ex-husband turns up a day late to his court-appointed time to visit their two daughters. \nThere is not a moment of stillness or silence in La Bataille. The film tracks the journalist as she races around Paris interviewing voters on election day while also trying to keep her ex away from their two children. Laetitia Dosch’s performance as the exasperated mother is a real tour de force\, complemented by the volatile energy of beloved French actor Vincent Macaigne in his role as the absentee father. Comedy in the form of a new easy-going boyfriend lightens the familial strife that otherwise dominates the screen\, showing private disputes unfold in public spaces\, and placing France’s many contradictions in sharp focus as life’s daily dramas are transformed into political treatises. \nDirector Justine Triet spent her early career documenting protests and political strife in her native land. A short documentary about Paris’s youth protests and her subsequent exposé on the 2007 presidential election cycle (Solférino) set the stage for this\, her fiction debut from 2012. Triet went on to win the 2023 Palme D’Or and an Oscar in 2023 for Anatomy of a Fall. \nEnglish title: Age of Panic\nDirector: Justine Triet\nRelease date: 2012\nComedy\nRunning time: 1hr 33mins\nCertificate: U\nFrench with English subtitles \nShow times\nSunday 15 February 2026\, 3.15pm\nSunday 15 February 2026\, 6.45pm

SUMMARY:La Traviata – Ellen Kent’s Farewell Opera Tour
DESCRIPTION:A tragic tale of searing passion and memorable music\, La Traviata is Verdi’s outstanding reimagining of one of the most well-know love stories of the 19th century\, La Dame aux Camelias. \nBased on a true story\, it descrives the passionate loves and life of the consumptive courtesan\, Violetta. There are many echoes of Verdi’s own life in Traviata and he threw himself into the music. The highlights include the ‘Brindisi’\, the best known drinking song in opera\, the duet ‘Un Di Felice’ and Violetta’s haunting aria ‘Addio Del Passato’. \nThis magnificent production\, directed by Ellen Kent\, boasts sumptuous sets and costumes.

SUMMARY:February Half-Term Workshop: Pet Pals
DESCRIPTION:School’s out – it’s time to play! Join the Pet Pals in-store at Pets at Home (Malvern) for some fun this half-term with free workshops on all things pet behaviour. \nWith the help of trusted pet care advisors\, children can get hands-on with animals to discover which toys make them jump for joy\, then become a master inventor as they design their very own toy. \nBy the end of the workshop\, those taking part will have learned why play is so important for an animal’s wellbeing\, building their confidence and setting them up for responsible pet ownership\, whenever the time comes. \nAll pet lovers the be awarded an official Pet Pals certificate\, sticker and character headband\, along with activity sheets to keep the fun going at home. \nThese sessions are specifically geared towards younger children (ages 4 – 10)\, with content and activities that are safe\, supervised and most of all fun. To allow enough room for everyone (and avoid spooking the animals)\, places are limited to one adult per child. \nFor more information and booking\, visit the Pets at Home website.

SUMMARY:Meditation and Buddhism Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Adhisthana to meditate with others and develop your ability to work creatively with your mind. You can either learn to meditate from scratch and develop the foundations for a daily practice or join the regulars to build on what you know and discover how to apply yourself effectively in meditation. \nAs of December 2025\, classes are being held on Mondays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and are open to participants of all levels of experience. Please note there is no class on 22 or 29 December 2025. \nYou are welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the start. You’ll be greeted at the entrance by someone who will direct you where to go and help you with any queries. \nThe class takes place in a room on the first floor and is\, as a consequence\, unfortunately not accessible. \nIn the first half of the session\, we meditate together; this is followed by a tea break. In the second half\, we learn about the teachings of the Buddha with the chance to engage in discussion and ask questions. \nThe class is led by a team of members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and those who are training for ordination. \nIf you would like more information\, you can call Adhisthana on 01531 641726 or email us (otherwise just turn up!).
