SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin and Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayer lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb.

SUMMARY:The President’s Cake (12A) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:This outstanding debut is a detailed portrait of life under dictatorship\, seen through the travails of a nine-year-old girl. \nIraq\, 1991: Lamia lives in poverty on the Mesopotamian Marshes with her ailing grandmother\, Bibi. When she is chosen to supply the cake for her school’s mandatory celebration of Saddam Hussein’s birthday\, it’s a nightmare. Bibi and Lamia can’t afford the ingredients\, and non-compliance could mean punishment or even execution. Enlisting schoolmate Saaed to help\, Lamia struggles to find what she needs\, as the adults she encounters cheat\, rob and betray her. Hadi’s compassionate\, tragicomic film balances light and dark in its child’s eye view of the moral collapse resulting from scarcity and authoritarianism. \nDIRECTOR: Hasan Hadi\nSTARRING: Baneen Ahmad Nayyef\, Sajad Mohamad Qasem\nIRAQ/US/QATAR\, 2025\n1 HOUR 45 MINUTES\nARABIC + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nShow times\nShow Times\nPlease note: Film starts at advertised time\nSunday 15 March 2026 at 1.00pm\nTuesday 17 March 2026 at 5.00pm

DESCRIPTION:Sorrentino (The Consequences of Love\, The Great Beauty) reunites with actor Toni Servillo in this chamber-piece about the final months in office of an Italian president. \nPresident Mariano De Santis – grieving his wife’s death – retreats into isolation within his vast presidential palace\, relying on his trusted confidante and comforted by a predilection for hip-hop. SUMMARY:Redoubt (12A) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Denis Lavant (Holy Motors\, Beau Travail) gives an intensely physical performance in this tender allegory of survival. \nSet in a rural Swedish village at the height of the Cold War and based on real events\, Redoubt is punctuated with quotes from If War Comes – a civil defence manual issued to Swedish households during the era when fear of nuclear war with Soviet Russia was a daily concern. Through the seasons\, eccentric farm worker Karl-Göran Persson fortifies his modest home into a haven against nuclear Armageddon. Compulsively gathering scrap metal\, he casts it into the walls\, envisioning a fortress that will protect him and his neighbours\, but his efforts bewilder everyone except the local children. \nDIRECTOR: John Skoog\nSTARRING: Denis Lavant\, Agnieszka Podsiadlik\, Livia Millhagen\, Aron Skoog\nSWEDEN/DENMARK\, 2025\n1 HOUR 25 MINUTES\nSWEDISH + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nShow times\nSunday 15 March 2026 at 6.30pm\nSaturday 21 March 2026 at 4.00pm

SUMMARY:Rose of Nevada (15) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Mark Jenkin’s time-travelling odyssey is a mysterious and unconventional story of identity\, grief and the vagaries of time\, but also very much about Cornwall and the sea. \n30 years ago\, the Rose of Nevada was lost at sea with all hands. When it suddenly reappears in the harbour of a rundown Cornish fishing village\, it feels like a sign: if the Rose sets sail again\, perhaps the village’s luck will turn. Nick (George MacKay) takes a job aboard\, joined by newly arrived drifter Liam (Callum Turner) but when they return to land\, all is not as they left it. Shot on 16mm like Bait\, this time in bold colour\, the film delights in its distinctive texture and physicality. \nDIRECTOR: Mark Jenkin\nSTARRING: George MacKay\, Callum Turner\, Francis Magee\, Edward Rowe\nUK\, 2025\n1 HOUR 54 MINUTES\nENGLISH \nShow times\nPlease note: Film starts at advertised time\nFriday 13 March 2026 at 4.45pm\nSunday 15 March 2026 at 7.00pm

SUMMARY:Gun Crazy (12A) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Bart and Laurie\, both sharpshooters\, meet in a fairground\, fall in love and embark on a crime spree in this cult film noir. \nA low-budget B-movie with a terrific script by an uncredited Dalton Trumbo (blacklisted\, his services were cheap)\, Gun Crazy was shot in just 30 days and maintains an extraordinary pace. Key to its success is Irish actor Peggy Cummins\, born in Prestatyn\, Wales almost exactly a hundred years ago. Her pretty\, vivacious and petite appearance makes for an unlikely ruthless killer. Her performance as Laurie Starr is nuanced\, and her outfit\, beret and dark glasses\, is iconic\, the model for Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde. A compulsive watch. \nDIRECTOR: Joseph H. SUMMARY:Meditation and Buddhism Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Adhisthana to meditate with others and develop your ability to work creatively with your mind. You can either learn to meditate from scratch and develop the foundations for a daily practice or join the regulars to build on what you know and discover how to apply yourself effectively in meditation. \nAs of December 2025\, classes are being held on Mondays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and are open to participants of all levels of experience. Please note there is no class on 22 or 29 December 2025. \nYou are welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the start. You’ll be greeted at the entrance by someone who will direct you where to go and help you with any queries. \nThe class takes place in a room on the first floor and is\, as a consequence\, unfortunately not accessible. \nIn the first half of the session\, we meditate together; this is followed by a tea break. In the second half\, we learn about the teachings of the Buddha with the chance to engage in discussion and ask questions. \nThe class is led by a team of members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and those who are training for ordination. \nIf you would like more information\, you can call Adhisthana on 01531 641726 or email us (otherwise just turn up!).

SUMMARY:Grass: A Nation’s Battle For Life (PG) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:This epic\, silent-era documentary follows the heroic annual migration of the nomadic Bakhtiari tribes of Iran through spectacular landscapes. \nAlong with journalist Marguerite Harrison\, Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack – the duo responsible for the early sound masterpiece King Kong (1933) – travelled through Turkey and territory that is now Iraq\, searching for the nomads. Finding them in the prairies of southwest Iran\, the filmmakers joined them for their spring migration through inhumanly arduous routes\, crossing the wild Karun River on inflated goatskins and climbing the 4\,200-metre Zard-Kuh with bare hands – sometimes even barefoot. The scenery is breathtaking\, and the feat\, to guide 50\,000 people and half a million livestock across impossibly snowy and stony terrain\, awe-inspiring. \nDIRECTORS: Merian C. Cooper\, Ernest B. Schoedsack\, Marguerite Harrison\nUS\, 1925\n1 HOUR 11 MINUTES\nSILENT\, ENGLISH INTERTITLES
