DESCRIPTION:A morning circular ramble\, back in time for lunch. From the railway station we meander through the streets of Ledbury before a 100 metre ascent through the woods & farmland to reach a panoramic view of Eastnor Castle\, the Obelisk and the line of the Malvern Hills. We follow a farm track downhill to the red sandstone church of St. John the Baptist in Eastnor before striking out on a bridleway soon passing Eastnor Pottery and a gentle wander through fields and woods to join a stony track before reaching the road back into Ledbury. Whilst there are no stiles to cross there is a fairly steep ascent through the woods at the start to get from the Ledbury town centre to the panoramic view point at 170 metres. DESCRIPTION:A circular walk taking in a central section of the Malvern Hills and returning through rolling Herefordshire countryside. We will visit the Worcestershire Beacon and the medieval churches at Cradley and Mathon. There will be a gentle introduction to the geology of the area and how that has shaped the landscape. There will be plenty of time to check out the show of Spring flowers and listen to the birdsong! Up down of 1\,640 feet. \nThere’s a small number of stiles to negotiate and we can expect some sections of muddy ground and moderately steep slopes. \nBring snacks\, a packed lunch and drinks. There is a pub at the end where we can take some refreshments for anybody who is interested. The footpaths are good but there is quite an incline to get to the top of the Beacon so a reasonable level of fitness is required.
