SUMMARY:Talk: From Catwalk to Stage by Anthea Nakorn
DESCRIPTION:Fashion\, always looking for new ways to reinvent itself: hanging onto the coat-tails of ‘high art’\, theatre. What better way than through a free fashion show and surrounding publicity in both theatre and fashion media\, whether opera\, dance or dramatic intervention? The performance gains too\, through updating sometimes moribund works\, giving them a contemporary edge. And of course fashion shows are performances in their own right\, with the audience being an integral part of the show. To see and be seen. Strutting your stuff. Performative indeed. \nBut of course all is not quite what it seems. Smoke and mirrors. That’s theatre! \nDrawing on her work in both theatre and fashion\, Anthea will talk about designers working in theatre\, and maybe spill a secret or two about such collaborations. \nTickets\n£10 – email the Fashion Museum to book

SUMMARY:Malvern Pastel Artists
DESCRIPTION:Who are we?\nMalvern Pastel Artists is a new community art group starting in 2026 meeting fortnightly. We would like to welcome other local pastel artists to create in a relaxed social space. The group is not a tutored class. Open to all abilities\, beginners are welcome to join. There will be some beginner-friendly art materials available for those new to pastels. \nWhat do we mean by pastels?\nWhat we love about pastels is that it’s drawing and painting combined in one – with intense colours closer to the raw pigment than other media. We define pastels as including soft pastels\, hard pastels\, pan pastels\, oil pastels\, charcoal\, graphite\, crayons\, any pencils and stick form media. Many of us are mixed-media artists and combine pastels with other media – watercolour\, for example. \nWhen?\nOne morning and one early evening session each month\, starting on 16 January 2026. (N.B. There is no session scheduled for the first Friday in April 2026\, which is Good Friday.) You are free to choose when to attend via our booking system (up to 20 people per session due to room size): \n\n1st Friday of the month: morning – 9.30am -12 noon\n3rd Friday of the month: evening – 6pm – 8.30 pm\n\nCosts\n£6 annual membership for 2026 (£0.50 a month) and £5 per booked session. Membership will be required to attend sessions and session tickets can be booked in advance. \nEmail: malvernpastelartists@hotmail.com

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Romancing the 18th Century from Rococo to Stage
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition opens Friday 29 May and runs until Saturday 26 September 2026 \nIn collaboration with the Malvern Theatre Players\, this exhibition will combine the museum’s collection with costume. \nWith the recent success of other exhibitions at the V&A focusing on Mary Antoinette\, both the real woman and the 2006 film\, we take a closer at look at why this period is so often romanticised. \nFrom extreme silhouette to powered wigs\, why can’t we get enough of 18th century fashion? \nThe Museum of Fashion Malvern is open every Friday and Saturday\, 10am – 4pm.

SUMMARY:Great Malvern Heritage Walk
DESCRIPTION:About the walk\nDiscover the rich heritage of one of England’s most charming spa towns\, famed for its invigorating Water Cure. \nJoin one of Malvern Civic Society’s volunteer guides to trace the town’s evolution\, from a 19th century spa destination\, to its role in World War II as an important centre for secret radar development. Along the way\, explore Victorian architecture\, Great Malvern Priory\, connections to composer Edward Elgar\, and sites celebrated through Malvern’s many blue plaques\, commemorating notable residents and visitors. \nWhether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong resident\, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for Malvern’s cultural and historical legacy. \nDates and times\nThe 90-minute tours operate every Saturday and Monday from April 2026 to October 2026\, except 13 July and 12 September\, starting at 10.30am from Malvern Tourist Information Centre on Church Street (contact: 01684 892289). \nAll walks are subject to guide availability. \nTickets\nThe cost is £7 for adults; 14 – 16 year olds go free. \nTickets are available online via TicketSource or at the Malvern Tourist Information Centre. Please note tickets for 14 – 16 year olds can be booked only through Malvern Tourist Information Centre (not online) \nPrivate group walks may be available – enquire directly to the TIC. \nAccessibility\nDue to the content of the tours and the hilly nature of Malvern\, these walks are not suitable for children under 14 years\, nor for anyone with mobility issues. \nDogs\nSorry – no dogs are allowed\, except assistance dogs. \nAlternative tour\nIn addition to the standard tour described above\, some guides offer a specialist tour\, by arrangement\, for those with a particular interest in the arts: “The Culture and The Cure”. SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin and Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayer lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day.
For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb

SUMMARY:Talk: A conversation with Dr Kate Lister
DESCRIPTION:From the host of award-winning History Hit podcast Betwixt the Sheets is Dr Kate Lister’s new book Flick. \nThere is a common misconception that before modern day feminism\, women throughout history simply lay back and thought of England or their respective place of origin; that the modern ‘sex positive’ movement is a radical break from the past. But women demanding better sex did not arrive with free love or the Rampant Rabbit. It has been a very long fight indeed. \nFrom ancient Mesopotamian sex goddesses to the contraceptive pill\, Kate Lister takes us through history to show us how women’s sexual pleasure was controlled\, understood and thoroughly\, thoroughly enjoyed. \nTickets\n£15 – email the Fashion Museum to book

SUMMARY:Savage House (15)
DESCRIPTION:Set against the backdrop of 18th century England\, a massive Pox outbreak\, and Jacobite Uprising – this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage and Lady Savage’s blind pursuit of a better life. It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages\, for this is a Savage House indeed. Filled with duels\, decadence\, and bloodshed\, this is a madcap play on class and power. \nDirected by: Peter Glanz\nCast includes: Richard E Grant\, Claire Foy\, Jack Farthing
