Travelling to the Malverns by Road

Malvern is on the A449 trunk route from Worcester to Ross on Wye. Travelling from the North on the M5 motorway, visitors should exit at Junction 7 and follow the signs to Malvern. Travelling from the South on the M5, visitors should exit at Junction 8 onto the M50 motorway and then after a very short distance take Junction 1 signposted to the Malverns following the A38 to Upton Upon Severn and then the B4211 into Malvern.

Upton upon Severn is located on the West side of the River Severn, just off the A38 Worcester to Tewkesbury road. Travelling from the North, follow the directions above but turn off left onto the A38 through the village of Kempsey, heading towards Tewkesbury.

Tenbury Wells is located on the A456. From Worcester, take the A443 road on the West side of the River Severn.

Car Parking

You can pay for your parking in all MHDC car parks using your mobile phone instead of cash – for further details see here. Using this method there is no need to display a ticket. Note: this does not apply to car parks on the Hills belonging to Malvern Hills Trust. Please ensure that all valuables are removed from parked cars.


Local Bus Services

Both Malvern and Upton are served by a variety of local bus services. The 42 service provides local transport around Malvern. The 43/44 services also provide local transport around Malvern and to and from Worcester. The 332 and 333 services go to and from Upton and Worcester via Kempsey, Severn Stoke and Earls Croome. Upton can also be accessed on the 363 service from Worcester. The 675 service connects Great Malvern to Colwall and Ledbury via North and West Malvern and the Wyche Cutting. The 481 service runs on Monday mornings (except bank holidays) from Ledbury to Cheltenham via Great Malvern, Upton and Tewkesbury, and returns in the early afternoon. Tenbury Wells is connected to Worcester via Great Witley by service 758 and to Kidderminster via Bewdley by service 291.

Travel by Rail

Malvern is fortunate to have 2 rail stations on the Worcester to Hereford line: in the centre of Great Malvern and in Malvern Link. Both stations have direct trains to Worcester, Hereford, Birmingham, Bristol, Oxford and London. All TICs can help with rail information.

Great Western Railway runs long distance services to Great Malvern from London Paddington, Reading, Oxford and Hereford, as well as direct regional services from Gloucester and Bristol. Great Malvern railway station is a short walk from the town centre from where a climb up to the ridge of the Malvern Hills will reward you with countryside views over Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Malvern Link is a second station also on the GWR network at the northern end of town. For journey times, train information and to buy tickets visit
