TRAVELLING TO THE MALVERNS BY ROAD

Malvern is on the A449 trunk route from Worcester to Ross on Wye. Travelling from the North on the M5 motorway, visitors should exit at Junction 7 and follow the signs to Malvern. Travelling from the South on the M5, visitors should exit at Junction 8 onto the M50 motorway and then after a very short distance take Junction 1 signposted to the Malverns following the A38 to Upton Upon Severn and then the B4211 into Malvern.

Upton upon Severn is located on the West side of the River Severn, just off the A38 Worcester to Tewkesbury road. Travelling from the North, follow the directions above but turn off left onto the A38 through the village of Kempsey, heading towards Tewkesbury.

Tenbury Wells is located on the A456. From Worcester, take the A443 road on the West side of the River Severn.

CAR PARKING

You can pay for your parking in all MHDC car parks using your mobile phone instead of cash – for further details see here. Using this method there is no need to display a ticket. Note: this does not apply to car parks on the Hills belonging to the Malvern Hills Trust. Please ensure that all valuables are removed from parked cars.

LOCAL BUS SERVICES

The towns of Malvern, Upton-upon-Severn and Tenbury Wells benefit from a variety of local bus services. Many local villages are also accessible by bus.

The 42 service provides local transport around Malvern, including Great Malvern, Barnards Green, Pickersleigh, Malvern Link, Poolbrook and Fruitlands. The 44 service connects Malvern and Worcester via Powick, as well as providing local transport around Malvern. The 675 service connects Great Malvern to Colwall and Ledbury via the Wyche Cutting.

The 332 service connects Upton and Worcester via Kempsey. (Please use the 332 timetable on the Astons website for Astons services only; for latest details of First services, visit the First website.) Upton and Worcester are additionally connected by the 363 service, which also serves Hanley Swan and Welland.

Community Action Malvern & District offers a number of ring and book services, details of which can be found on the website.

Tenbury Wells is connected to Worcester via Great Witley by service 758, to Kidderminster via Bewdley by service 291 and to Ludlow by service 731.

The villages of Bransford, Alfrick, Knightwick and Suckley are on the circular 423 service, originating and terminating in Worcester.

The villages of Rushwick, Lower Broadheath, Hallow, Wichenford, Martley and Clifton-upon-Teme are served by the 308/309/310 service to/from Worcester. (Please note that not all services stop in each village – see website for timetable to choose the correct service or contact us for assistance.)

Rushwick and Bransford, along with Leigh Sinton, are also on the route of the 417 service that connects Worcester to Ledbury.

The 420 services to/from Worcester, run by First and DRM, also stop in villages between Worcester and Bromyard.

DRT BUS SERVICE

New DRT busses are now operating around Upton upon Severn and the surrounding rural areas like Hanley Castle, Hanley Swan, Welland and Kempsey.

The Demand Responsive Transport service also offers transport to a variety of ‘Points of Interest’ both inside and outside of the zone including Great Malvern Town and train station.

The service is delivered through an app or via phone call where rides can be requested by passengers who are then quickly collected from a close by pick up point. Operating between 7am until 7pm Monday to Saturday.

There’s a flat fare of £2.50 for all journeys per person, with additional passengers paying £1.25 and ticket bundles available as well as concessionary cards being accepted.

NATIONAL BUS TRAVEL

The nearby town of Ledbury is served by National Express service 445. From Ledbury, trains serve Colwall and Malvern.

Birmingham is served by various National Express and Megabus services. From Birmingham, trains serve Worcester, Malvern and Colwall. From Worcester, local buses serve Upton-upon-Severn, Tenbury Wells and villages in the Malvern Hills District.

TRAVEL BY RAIL

Malvern is fortunate to have two rail stations on the Worcester to Hereford line: Great Malvern and Malvern Link. Both stations have direct trains to Worcester, Hereford, Birmingham, Bristol, Cheltenham, Oxford and London. All TICs can help with rail information.

Great Western Railway runs long distance services to Great Malvern from London Paddington, Reading, Oxford and Hereford, as well as direct regional services from Gloucester and Bristol. Great Malvern railway station is a short walk from the town centre from where a climb up to the ridge of the Malvern Hills will reward you with countryside views over Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
