DESCRIPTION:Juan Martin produces sounds that are both melodic and explosive\, the visceral power of authentic Flamenco. Listeners will be transported to the Spain of Málaga\, Granada\, Córdoba and Jerez on a journey through the diverse cultures of Andalucia. \nJuan weaves a myriad influences from the gypsy culture of Rajasthan in northern India\, to the Byzantine chants plus the Hebraic and Moorish laments of Spain’s colonization of South America – the sounds of Argentina and Cuba also to be found in the rumba\, guajiras and milonga. \nA native of Andalucia\, Juan Martin has recorded twenty albums\, mostly as a composer\, and has played with the Royal Philharmonic and greats like Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. He has twice been voted one of the world’s top three exponents by Guitar Player magazine\, and\, extraordinarily\, actually performed for Picasso on his 90th birthday. \nHaywain Bar at 6.30pm\, then the concert starts at 7pm.

SUMMARY:The Golden Valley Sundial – On the Meadow at Hellens
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 10 June – Wednesday 17 June 2026 \nArtists in Herefordshire turn to folk history\, farming knowledge and community collaboration to reimagine the countryside as a site of cultural production\, rather than the backdrop. \nFor summer 2026\, artists Chris Poolman and Grace Emily Manning present ‘The Golden Valley Sundial’\, a touring outdoor artwork that brings together folk-history\, agricultural practices\, and the lived experience of contemporary\, rural communities. \nThe work was commissioned by Meadow Arts\, a contemporary visual arts charity that works in unexpected and rural places. The work emerges from their ‘Our Place Golden Valley’ project\, a three-year creative health project exploring what it means to live in\, and belong to\, a geographically and culturally distinct rural landscape. \nThe Ledbury-based artists have spent a year working with communities in the Golden Valley in south-west Herefordshire. This process has culminated in ‘The Golden Valley Sundial’\, a large-scale\, modular artwork and interactive game which will tour the county\, stopping off at Hellens for a week in June! \nThere is no admission charge to the grounds and gardens at Hellens\, which are open Wednesdays and Sundays from 10.30am to 5pm. However\, the Sundial Art installation will be situated in the meadow and along a public footpath and therefore can be visited at any time\, with access via the public footpath rather than through the grounds and gardens. No requirement to book.

DESCRIPTION:The Textile Bazaar returns to Hellens Manor on 8 & 9 July 2026\, open from 11am – 5pm on Wednesday 8 July and from 10am – 5pm on Thursday 9 July. \nIndividual ethnic clothes and fantastic collectable world textiles for sale in the large barn and gardens of this lovely manor house. \nEntry to the bazaar costs £1 (bring cash for this\, but some stallholders now accept card payments). \nLunches\, coffee\, cakes and cream teas available at Hellens Tearoom. \nWorkshops are also taking place:\nMorning (Wednesday and Thursday) – ‘Medals with a message’ with Angie Hughes: Learn how to make a scrap collage using small pieces of colourful fabrics and hand stitch. Cut into circles with a message\, add a strap and a pin to finish.\nAfternoon (Wednesday and Thursday) – ‘Plaiting and braiding’ with Ginny Epstein: Learn this ancient versatile craft with easy instructions to make belts\, straps\, cords\, baskets and rugs. \nWorkshops take place on both days and materials are supplied\, but please bring your own apron and a notebook. They cost £10 each and must be booked in advance – book using the contact details for Bailey in the ‘Workshops at the Textile Bazaar’ section on the Textile Fairs website.

DESCRIPTION:Hellens is delighted that William Howard\, one of Britain’s leading pianists\, will be returning to perform in the Great Barn. \nWilliam has enjoyed a career that has taken him to over 40 different countries. As soloist and chamber musician William has performed regularly at major venues and festivals in the UK and can often be heard on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. He has made over forty CD recordings and premiered several dozen new works by leading composers from the UK and elsewhere. In 1983 he founded the Schubert Ensemble\, with which he performed for the full 35 years of the Ensemble’s existence. Three solo piano recordings for Orchid Classics – Sixteen Romantic Love Songs (2016)\, Sixteen Contemporary Love Songs (2018) and an album of pieces by Howard Skempton (2020) – have been hugely successful on streaming platforms and have enjoyed much critical acclaim. In May 2024 Orchid released a new album featuring a collection of Nocturnes by 17 different composers.
