DESCRIPTION:Stretching almost ten metres in all\, this remarkable crewelwork frieze serves as a visual chronicle of Hellens Manor\, representing history from pre-1066 to the present day. Following its conception in 2017\, the piece was brought to life over eight years by a dedicated team of thirteen Arts Society Heritage Volunteers\, standing as a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and creative collaboration. Making use of traditional techniques and heritage shades of crewel wool\, the volunteers captured the rich narrative of Hellens\, encompassing not just its earliest inhabitants and noble families\, but also the stunning landscape of the Marcle Ridge\, heritage trees\, and traditional orchards. \nAlthough usually housed in the Minstrels’ Gallery above the Great Hall\, this special one-day exhibition offers a unique opportunity to view the ten-metre-long embroidery displayed in the Great Barn\, together with historical research\, the design’s evolution\, extensive samples\, and source materials. \nTalk\n10.30am – 11.15am\nJoin us for an in-depth exploration of the project\, the research\, and the craftsmanship behind the embroidery.\nCost: £6 (includes exhibition entry) \nGeneral Exhibition Access\nView the embroidery and exhibition\n12pm – 3pm (bookable in hourly slots: 12pm – 1pm\, 1pm – 2pm\, 2pm – 3pm)\nCost: £3 (advance booking) or £4 (pay on the door) \nBooking\nPlease book your tickets online in advance where possible \nAccessibility: Hellens is pleased to offer free entry to Blue Badge holders and their carers. \nThe Tea Room will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
