SUMMARY:Tippett Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Hellens is thrilled to host this superb string quartet for a concert in the Great Barn. \nMusicians\nJohn Mills violin\nJeremy Isaac violin\nLydia Lowndes-Northcott viola\nBozidar Vukotic cello \nProgramme\nJohn Ireland String Quartet No 1 in D minor\nIan Venables String Quartet Op 32\nSchubert String Quartet in D minor D810 ‘Death and the Maiden’ \nIn this concert\, as part of the musical celebrations to mark the 70th birthday year of the highly acclaimed composer Ian Venables\, the outstanding Tippett Quartet will be performing Venables’ String Quartet\, a compact and most arresting work of melodic richness\, harmonic incident\, varied intensity and very real beauty. The programme will open with John Ireland’s youthful String Quartet\, where the influences of Beethoven and Brahms can be heard but also the early emergence of a new musical voice. In the second half of the concert\, the Tippett Quartet will play one of the perennial glories of chamber music\, Schubert’s ‘Death and the Maiden’ Quartet\, a work of riveting drama which also finds room for the most affecting poetic utterance. Ian Venables lives in Worcester and is a valued Trustee of Hellensmusic. \nThe Haywain bar and doors open 30 minutes prior to the performance. \nTickets: £20 (students and carers free) – available to book online via the Hellens website

SUMMARY:Drawing with Wool – Led by Sarah Brooker
DESCRIPTION:Textile artist Sarah Brooker will be leading a one-day workshop\, teaching the unique process of wet felting and the magical capacity for mark making…. \nDuring the morning\, the focus will be on drawing\, using the beautiful gardens of Hellens Manor as our inspiring backdrop. (As it will be autumn\, it is hoped that the weather will be calm\, but if not the flora may be foraged or brought from home.) Using the glorious range of plants and your own favourite mark-making drawing tools and sketchbook – charcoal\, crayon\, pastels etc. – we will explore the various textures and colours that abound. \nAfter the felting process has been explained there will be a short demonstration from Sarah and then you will embark on using the merino fleeces plus any other natural fibres brought along from home to incorporate into your piece. Using your drawings from the morning\, you will create a wall piece\, durable\, colourfast and colourful! Please bring along any extra materials\, drawing kit and your imaginations. \nFor further important information and booking\, visit the Hellens Manor website.

SUMMARY:Daniel Tong at 50: Beethoven Weekend
DESCRIPTION:This immersive weekend at Hellens Manor offers the unique experience to hear all of Beethoven’s major chamber works with piano – violin sonatas\, cello sonatas and piano trios – in six concerts\, performed by three of Britain’s leading chamber players. \nAs well as being a great composer\, Beethoven was a brilliant pianist and performed all of his piano parts himself until deafness prevented him from playing in public for the final part of his career. Therefore\, through these works\, an insight is glimpsed into Beethoven’s unique and ground-breaking genius as it emerged through his chosen instrument and his own musicianship. From the magnificent Op. 1 piano trios with which he announced himself to the Viennese public\, through the Spring and Kreutzer sonatas to the Ghost and Archduke trios\, every aspect of Beethoven’s musical persona is on show in these chamber works. \nFor more information and ticket details\, visit the Hellens Manor website.
