DESCRIPTION:Entry by wristband \nHot Banana creates echoes of the great Louis Prima and Louis Jordan whilst embracing the energy ever present in Rhythm ‘n’ Blues\, with jump jive\, boogie woogie and swing. Hot Banana have an exuberant and visual stage presence\, an infectious feel-good humour and dazzling musicianship which have helped Hot Banana to establish in a very short time\, the glowing reputation it enjoys whenever they perform. The band’s ensemble is made up of experienced musicians and soloists\, who pride themselves in the knowledge that a full entertainment package is theirs to deliver. On trumpet\, trombone and vocals is Kevin Grenfell\, with Rich Hughes on piano\, Simon Smith on bass\, Steve Street on drums\, and Howard Gregory on guitar.

SUMMARY:Graham Hughes’ Sunshine Kings (Upton Jazz Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Entry by wristband \nThe Sunshine Kings are led by Graham Hughes on the trombone and vocals (with the odd feature on chromatic harmonica by request!). Graham works with many of the most respected jazz musicians in the UK and often appears as a featured guest at festivals. He formed The Sunshine Kings for an appearance at a jazz club in London in 2009\, choosing a group of musicians from around London who were at the time little known on the traditional jazz scene. Graham has transcribed versions of interesting songs played by bands of the 1920s and 30s\, written his own arrangements of popular numbers\, and even composed one or two original numbers of his own for the band. Variety is the spice of life\, and The Sunshine Kings takes this mantra on board with their performances\, filling the music with freshness and fun.

DESCRIPTION:Entry by wristband \nRico’s Swing Company was formed as a response to requests from many Jazz club audience members to hear Cia Tomasso. She will be borrowing songs from the likes of Lee Wiley\, Mildred Bailey and of course Billie Holiday. The inclusion of Tom ‘Spats’ Langham’s guitar and vocals in this 30’s freewheeling swing setting just adds to the variety. Of course\, you also have Rico’s great trumpet and vocals and the wonderful Trevor Whiting on clarinet and sax and to complete the perfect stylistic rhythm\, Nick Ward and Malcolm Sked on drums and bass.

DESCRIPTION:Entry by wristband \nBen Holder is the most acclaimed and exciting jazz violinist in the UK. His classical studies began at the age of six and were complemented by training at the Birmingham Conservatoire. An introduction to jazz came in his early teens – classic masters such as Benny Goodman\, Oscar Peterson and Stephane Grappelli – and led Ben to truly find his place as a musician. Ben possesses an innate sense of swing rhythm (something which often eludes classical players)\, breath-taking technical ability and true showmanship on stage. He offers flawless musicianship\, heaps of energy and personality and a visible passion for his craft. Ben’s various awards bear testimony to these abilities. Often playing across the UK\, Europe and further afield\, he is a first-call jazz violinist for many of the country’s top venues\, line-ups and studios.
