Owain Glyndwr’s Revolt, Clock Tower Ghosts and Ruined Norman Churches
The Abberley Clock Tower is a prominent landmark that can be seen for miles. Nearby Witley Court was once the home of the Earls of Dudley but was destroyed by fire in 1938. The ruins are now owned by English Heritage. The famous Perseus and Andromeda Fountain are still in working order making an impressive water feature in the grounds. Nearby Great Witley Church is one of the most impressive Baroque churches in Britain with designs created by Antonio Bellucci.
Abberley Hill (928ft) is a steep but rewarding climb, from which one can see fantastic panoramic views of local countryside. The village boasts two churches: the Victorian St Mary’s and the ruins of 12th & 13th Century St Michael’s.
