Significant energy bill savings and environmental benefits are expected from the replacement of curtain walling at Malvern Splash.
On 24 January, the Malvern Hills District Council (MHDC) Executive Committee agreed additional expenditure to replace the curtain walling on the Priory Park side elevation of Malvern Splash.
The existing curtain walling is over 30 years old, and an increasing number of the glazed units often need to be resecured or replaced. Full replacement of the curtain walling will be guaranteed for ten years.
An application for planning permission for the phased replacement of the curtain walling at Malvern Splash was approved on 27 October 2020.
Phase I was undertaken as part of the swimming pool refurbishment in 2020/21 with phase II programmed for 2022/23.
The upgrade from the current double-glazed units to modern tripled glazed ones could save around 30,000kWh of energy and 6tCO2e per year.
This figure represents an energy saving of 14.3% for the floor area directly impacted by the curtain walling on the elevation.
Cllr Peter Whatley, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Not only is the replacement essential for maintenance but it also plays a part in helping towards our objectives, including investing in our community facilities, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and delivering Destination Zero.”
