History of Upton Folk Festival

. . . and if you want it here is a little bit of history from our first Chairman – Roger Davies . . . after a couple of pints we decided to run a folk day and wandered over the road to the Star to check out the upstairs room and the beer. After chatting to the landlord at the time we obtained permission. A ceilidh was held at the boathouse and in the first ever programme the one legged cat playing the fiddle was launched! The festival quickly moved to being a long weekend festival on the first bank holiday in May.

A lot of hard lessons were learnt in the first two years of running the festival and after ten years we formed the company limited by guarantee that still runs the festival. This was done in May 2001.

We have now been running for over 30 years and still going strong.
