St Leonard’s Church, Newland

Situated just outside Malvern Link, St Leonard’s is probably the finest example of the Gambier Parry fresco technique in the country. This magnificent Grade 1 listed building, which is the private chapel of the Beauchamp Almshouses, was designed as a showcase for High Anglican worship – a role which it still fulfils to this day.

The tour includes St Leonard’s Church, the cloister, the medieval cloister chapel, the Newland Theological library, the Great Hall and the opportunity to view the Quadrangle and the stunning Beauchamp Almshouses. Until 1945, the church and almshouses maintained their own choir school and an exhibition on the once famous Newland Choir School, to which Elgar was a frequent visitor, is on show in the Library.

Tea, coffee and cake are available to visitors in the Library.
