Barnard’s Green Christmas Extravaganza – Saturday 4 December 2021

Christmas | Family Fun | What's On

The popular Barnards Green Christmas Extravaganza returns this year on Saturday 4 December. With a packed morning of family-friendly entertainment, it’s a welcome return to the festive calendar after a scaled-back event last year.

Jenny Cain from Barnards Green Post Office is helping to organise the morning and tells us more.

Tell us what’s happening

We have a full programme of entertainment around the Green throughout the morning, for the young and not so young alike! There will be crazy golf on the Green, face painting and craft activities, a tombola, and Balloon Making with Magic Merlo.

There will be two surprise walkabout characters, two traditional fairground stalls and the Morgan Motor Company is lending us their bus where you will be able to visit Santa in his grotto.

We are hosting a car exhibition which includes several very impressive vehicles, and we are being supported by the local police and fire service who will send vehicles along for children to look around and sit in.

Music through the morning will be provided by several talented local musicians, Clifton Hill Vintage is hosting a History of Christmas exhibition, and to top it all off the town crier will be along to make some (loud) announcements!

Will we have the usual fiendishly difficult competitions?!

This year we are asking ‘How Much does Christmas Weigh?’ Several of our local shops and businesses are each hosting an item that you will need to guess the weight of, everything from a cake to a turkey, cheese, a flower display and a jar of sweets. You can visit the shops taking part to assess each item, before totting up the weight and entering the competition. It opens on 29 November and the prize is a £30 voucher to spend in one of the participating businesses.

We are also running our yearly quiz, with cryptic clues leading to place names. It costs £1 to enter with a gift voucher prize up for grabs. In both cases, you can pick up details and entry forms from the Post Office, or Just So, Café in the Green or The Cheeseboard.

What does the event achieve?

There are two purposes for the Extravaganza.

Firstly it’s our way of saying ‘Thank you’ to all the people who use our local businesses, we are fortunate to have a thriving local shopping area with plenty of independent traders. We have everything on our doorstop which is great.

Secondly, the morning raises money for charity. In seven years we have raised more than £15,000 which is a fantastic achievement. This year we’ve decided to raise money for Action Deafness. People with hearing loss have really struggled since lockdown began, as mask wearing can make life incredibly difficult for them.

Finally, I would like to thank the town council and district council for their support in making the event happening. The event helps to kick start the festive season in Malvern, and we’re looking forward to it this year more than ever!

The Barnards Green Christmas Extravaganza takes place this year on Saturday 4 December from 10am to 1pm.
