The recently opened Fashion Museum Malvern aims to bring the history of Malvern to life through its fashion.
They celebrate the rich heritage and evolution of fashion through meticulously curated exhibits. Their mission is to educate, inspire, and engage with the community while preserving the art of fashion and showcasing its historical significance. Visitors can discover the vibrant history of this special town through displays covering the glove industry of Worcestershire and the fashion houses of the past!
The museum is designed to be a space where anyone can come along and reminisce about times gone by and share stories of Malvern’s past.
The museum currently displays a selection of gloves from local brands such as Dents, Fownes and Maloré. This industry started in Worcester in the 13th century and began to boom. At its peak 60% of those working in Worcester were employed by the glove industry, most of whom were women. One of the most famous parts of Malvern fashion history was the opening of Warwick house. A fashion house containing its own hairdressers, restaurant and a department for every type of garment you could think of! There is currently have a display of men’s and women’s evening wear from Warwick House dating back to the 1890s when it was known as Cox & Painters. Plus a small collection from another well-known Malvern establishment, Brays.
In addition to all the local fashion at the museum there is also have a changing rotation of collections, often donated by local people even when they are not local brands. In the back of the museum, you will also find a comprehensive fashion library. This library has been curated by founder, Romy, over many years.
The museum also houses a small shop with a vintage and modern haberdashery, stationary, vintage patterns, bags and scrunchies. If you are a fan of vintage buttons and lace, then we highly recommend you stop by this shop. The hope is that the museum can encourage everyone to take up a craft or repair their existing clothing. Some of the items we sell have been donated by local artisans to support the continuation of the museum.
In addition to displays, the museum will also host workshops, talks and other events. To learn more about our upcoming workshops or if you are interested in putting on your own workshop please contact the museum on [email protected].
