Upton Day of Jazz – 2 October 2021

What's On

Upton day of Jazz

After two ‘Last Weekend in June’ Jazz Festival cancellations, we now have the opportunity to do something new and different. Musicians want to play, we believe audiences want to listen (safely of course), businesses in town want to see some people about and ideally spending and most of us need something to cheer. We don’t want to wait for June 2022 through planning for a full Jazz Festival next year is in hand.

So….

Upton’s Day of Jazz is going ahead on Saturday 2 October 2021.

We will have Jazz playing in several venues in and around town, some with outside space for those who remain cautious.

We have invited young talented ‘Best of Young Jazzers’ including Severn Arts and WYJO, Hanley Castle School and Gloucestershire Youth Music, to come and show off their talent.

We will have a Jazz Fringe event (at the Fringe anything goes musically) at the Swan Hotel

The event will run from 11.30am through until 11.00pm

Venues will include Bar Severn, Mojitos, the Boathouse, the Swan Hotel and the Kings Head. Other venues and local traders are welcome to pitch in.

An eclectic lineup of bands include the popular Worcester Youth Jazz Orchestra directed by Ian Hattersley, Mike Owen/Sarah Spencer’s Storyville Six, Hot Fingers featuring Thomas ‘Spats’ Langham, Cadillac Express, LeSwing, Sundown Jazz Society, A Touch of Jazz, and many more.

Oh…and it’s all FREE to enter, so you can browse around and enjoy, especially as some of the venues have open air spaces.

We would appreciate Donations to secure the future of the Jazz into its 35th year and who knows, maybe 40+ years in Upton. Collections on the day will benefit local charities.

Offers of help on the day will be welcome too.

This event is in partnership with Malvern Hills District Council as part of their town recovery and events programme; supported by HM Govt; ERDF ; and Upton Town Council.

….and the Fringe by our longstanding supporters Balens (specialist insurers) of Malvern; and Upton Co-op Community Fund.
