Alex Clarke (reeds), a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2020, winner of the Rising Star category in the 2019 British Jazz Awards and three-time Parliamentary Jazz Awards nominee, is recognised as one of the most in-demand saxophonists on the British jazz scene. Rooted in the bebop & swing traditions, her powerful, melodic playing draws inspiration from the likes of Phil Woods, Sonny Stitt & Cannonball Adderley. Alex has performed with notable names such as Alan Barnes, Bruce Adams & Mark Nightingale and regularly works with top ensembles including The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra. Leading her own quartet featuring some of the UK’s finest musicians, namely Dave Newton (piano), Dave Green (bass) and Steve Brown (drums), she released her latest album ‘Only A Year’ in 2022. For this afternoon’s performance, Alex’s quartet will be exploring the music of Cole Porter, performing innovative arrangements of his repertoire from the 1930s and 40s and featuring iconic songs from his most loved musicals such as Kiss Me Kate, Jubilee & Anything Goes.
