Event Description
River walk but one short sharp ascent at the end. The walk starts at Powick Bridge where the first battle of the Civil War (1642 – 1651) was fought. We then follow the River Teme along the Monarch’s Way & across the battlefields to join the River Severn. It was at this point that Oliver Cromwell built his ‘bridge of boats’ to cross the Severn and confront the Royalist army. We then continue into Worcester and pass the Commandery, King Charles’ battle HQ, and finally walk up to Fort Royal for an overview of the City and see where Charles fled after he was defeated. Our expert guide will make several stops to share his stories and the history of this final battle in the Civil War on 3rd September 1651. The time includes several information stops and lunchbreak.
The walk starts across fields, which may be muddy depending on the spring weather, and for the latter half of the walk is on roads in the City. There will be time for a coffee break and a lunch stop, so bring sufficient rations.
