Event Description

Cox & Box
Music by Arthur Sullivan Libretto by F.C. Burnand

“A one act little masterpiece”

Cox and Box is a one-act comic opera by Francis Cowley Burnand & Arthur Sullivan and is based on the 1847 farce, Box & Cox.

This was Sullivan’s first successful comic opera, written five years prior to his first opera with W. S. Gilbert.

The story centres on two lodgers, one of whom works at night and the other during the day, unwittingly sharing a room, let by a cunning landlord. This works very well (at least for the landlord), until one of them has the day off and the two tenants meet in the room.

Performed by Mike Faulkner, Ian Walton and Paul Thompson
