Event Description
This is the original stage version of Patrick Hamilton’s classic Victorian thriller, first performed in the 1930s, twice filmed and revived at the Old Vic.
The play tells the story of a wife who is being persecuted by her husband until she believes she is losing her mind. Items mysteriously disappear from the house, the gaslight dims without apparent cause and mysterious footsteps are heard from the floor above. Will anyone come to the rescue of this poor tormented woman? What secrets from her husband’s past is Mrs. Manningham yet to discover?
The action takes place over the course of just one evening in the slightly seedy living room of a four-storey house in an unfashionable part of Victorian London.
The play is directed for STAC by Jane Lush.
