Cambridge academic Helen goes to pieces after the loss of her beloved father. For recovery, she retreats and turns to nature. Adopting and training a northern goshawk, she enters a radically challenging but consoling dynamic with the stubborn, ferocious bird she names Mabel. Lowthorpe’s arresting adaptation boasts magnificent footage of its feathered co-star and a career-best performance from Foy as she reflects on the wilds of grief and the tenacity and indifference of the natural world.
