Event Description

This thoughtfully curated recital by renowned cellist Corinne Frost and distinguished pianist Clare Toomer delves into the rich musical landscape that helped mould Sir Edward Elgar’s own distinctive voice. Including works by Beethoven, Dvořák, Fauré, Parry, Purcell and Schumann — all composers whose craftsmanship, lyricism, and harmonic imagination Elgar held in high esteem — the selection offers a compelling window into the influences that resonated deeply with him throughout his life.

The performance will be enhanced by illuminating commentary from Richard Westwood-Brookes, who will reflect on Elgar’s personal connection to these composers and the role they played in inspiring his musical development.
