Event Description

The Malvern Chamber Music Festival is a brand new event for Malvern’s cultural calendar. Featuring the Elgar Ensemble, a rising chamber music collective that celebrates British music and champions the unsung heroes of the 19th and 20th century British repertoire, the festival gives Malvern its very own chamber music festival, set in the heart of Elgar-country.

The concerts will be held in the acoustically and aesthetically stunning venue of Great Malvern Priory, which has an illustrious history of hosting the very best in classical music.

At this inaugural festival, the Elgar Ensemble has chosen to showcase several early works from each respective composer by way of threading together an overall theme of new beginnings. Particular highlights will include Elgar’s ‘Three Movements for Piano Trio’, Debussy’s charming salon Piano Trio, Beethoven’s glorious String Trio Op. 9, No. 1 in G major and a selection of Frank Bridge’s most adored works, including the heroic Violin Sonata of 1904, the brooding Cello Sonata and, most excitingly of all, his sweeping and rhapsodic ‘Phantasie’ Piano Trio and Piano Quartet. They are thrilled to be bringing these masterpieces to Malvern, some of which perhaps even for the very first time.
