Event Description

British Nigerian Akinola Davies Jr’s bold and poetic debut is a semi-autobiographical tale set over the course of a single day in Lagos as political unrest looms.

Nigeria, 1993: Kid brothers Remi and Akin are gifted a day with their estranged father Folarin. Together, they voyage into Lagos for the first time, the boys taking in both the colossal city and the obstacles to getting there. Folarin’s mission is threatened by the unfolding presidential election – the first since the military takeover 10 years previously – and the chaos he fears will follow. It is a vivid and intensely personal drama, a child’s eye view of a mysterious father and a country on the edge of political turmoil.
