Event Description
Artificial Intelligence has gone viral. ChatGPT, the world’s first mass-market general-purpose AI tool, acquired 100 million users in a few weeks. But why did a technology 70 years in the making finally take off? And what does it all mean – should we be excited, afraid – or both?
While AI has been a notable and much-talked-about emerging technology for at least a decade, the rate of progress in the past few years has been remarkable – and possibly unsettling. Generative AI, most prominently in the form of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, has gone viral, making it the first general purpose AI technology to reach a global audience. In this talk, Michael Wooldridge will explain what generative AI and how is it different, as well as ask why generative AI has taken off now. Michael will consider the capabilities of generative AI now, and how they could evolve, and the implications for all of us.
Suitable for: age 12 years and up.
