Joshua Oppenheimer follows documentaries The Act of Killing and The Look of Silence with a bold move: an all-star musical about a family that has survived the end of the world.
Twenty-five years after environmental collapse left the Earth uninhabitable, Mother, Father and Son and their few companions are confined to a palatial bunker. They struggle to maintain hope and a sense of normalcy through the rituals of daily life – until the arrival of a stranger. Suddenly the frail bonds of optimism that have held this wealthy clan together begin to fray. As tensions rise, long repressed feelings of remorse and resentment threaten to destroy the balance.
But difficult truths point to a way forward, one based on acceptance, love, and a capacity for change.
