Music from Orkney – Traditional music old and new

Malvern Link with Cowleigh’s final Free Lunchtime Concert of the year at St Matthias Church, Malvern Link is fast approaching!
The season will end with a hoot with a set of foot-tapping tunes from the renowned Orkney folk fiddler Jennifer Wrigley and her partner Laurence Wilson on piano on Thursday 17 November 2022 at 12.30pm.

JENNIFER WRIGLEY is from the Orkney Islands and is highly respected as a world class traditional fiddle player and global ambassador for Orkney’s folk music. She is internationally recognised as one of the leading fiddle players and composers to come out of Scotland in recent years. In 1996 she won the UK’s premier accolade for new folk talent, the BBC Young Tradition Award, which kickstarted a highly successful recording and touring career. Performing with celebrated duo ‘The Wrigley Sisters’ and six-piece progressive Scottish folk band ‘Seelyhoo’, over the years she has recorded over a dozen albums, undertaken three world tours and visited 47 countries, including 15 trans-Atlantic trips.

Fellow Orcadian, LAURENCE WILSON, strongly influenced by his rich musical lineage, provides a distinctive, energetic and rhythmic piano style which delivers a toe-tapping accompaniment to Jennifer’s high quality tunesmithery. Together this inspiring duo will enthral and enchant you with their unique, rigorous and exciting blend of Orcadian, Scots, Irish, Scandinavian and North American influenced Reels, Jigs, Strathspeys and Airs, featuring many of their own compositions and arrangements.

Concert organiser, Liz Dilnott Johnson said “we are really thrilled to be welcoming Jennifer and Laurence to St. Matthias and can’t wait to hear what promises to be an exciting, exhilarating and fitting finale to this years’ lunchtime concert series”

Do join afterwards for a free Jacket Potato lunch, there will be a retiring collection.
