A new community shop opened it’s doors this New Year in Tenbury Wells. Lead Volunteer Chris has been working hard behind the scenes for two years and with support from volunteers Elizabeth and Bernadette they were thrilled to open their doors to customers last week.
Chris has worked in charity shops in Builth Wells and Brecon and also at Regal Tenbury Wells so she was keen to do something for the community and wanted to give something back.
The Community Shop opened on 5 January 2026 to a great response from residents and visitors to this historic market town.
Chris said: ‘The people of Tenbury have been marvellous. So far we’ve had lots of donations from the local community. At the moment we can accept anything apart form electrical items. As a threesome we’ll decide at the end of the year which projects we would like to support.’
All profits from the shop will go directly back into the community of Tenbury Wells and the shop is actively looking for organisations to support.
Any groups or organisations who are interested in receiving support from the community shop can send an expression of interest to the shop’s address: 16 A Market Street, Tenbury Wells, WR15 8BQ.
The community shop have decided that they will be prioritising support for any projects or groups that are working with young people in and around Tenbury Wells.
Future plans include offering a sewing group in the space at the back of the shop. This will be for small alternations and jobs that can be done for a small fee.
They already have a dozen volunteers who look after the shop in morning and afternoon shifts.
The shop is open 10:00-4:00pm Monday – Friday and Saturdays 10:00am – 1pm.
