Event Description
Fields & woodland to Lulsley crossing an enchanting stream. On the outskirts of Knightwick we join the Worcester way to Crews Hill. a route that has historical roots established in 1989. Historically, the area’s landscape was shaped by glacial meltwater, as well as by its more ancient geological past. The route is known for its ancient woodlands.
We pass through Crews Hill nature reserve beneath the canopy of this outstanding ancient woodland that reveals a surprising mix of species. Alongside the oaks are ash, beech, small-leaved lime, wild service, hornbeam and old yew trees. Tucked away in the east of the wood are old, gnarled, lime pollards. We join Blackhouse Woods, a species-rich woodland and Local Wildlife Site. Back to Alfrick via fields, the Geopark Way, Leigh Brook, culminating in a scenic walk through the Knapp & Papermill Reserve to Sandy Lane, an old drovers track & focal point for local ghost stories and hauntings including a phantom wagon pulled by 4 spectral horses!
