Event Description
Set in the Bluebird Tearooms in Malvern during the Second World War, the locals are speculating about who these ‘outsiders’ are, arriving in trucks with strange equipment set up in the back.
They wear spectacles and tweed jackets and the girls look as though they are just out of school. All they appear to do is wander around town, in groups, apparently showing no interest whatsoever in joining the war effort. They are reluctant to say why they have appeared.
Are they conscientious objectors, petty criminals or what? Why have they arrived? Also, why are they being billeted to local residents to accommodate them in their homes, often against their wishes?
As the story unfolds, all is eventually revealed.
