Reviving the tradition of the drama festivals that Malvern has been so famous for, the Coach House Theatre is presenting a summer programme of performing arts events to showcase the work of local professional, amateur and community groups and individuals. With plays ranging from a dramatisation of the notorious “Castlemorton Rave” to Shakespeare and Sheridan and shows both in the Theatre and in Priory Park there is something for everyone.
Supported by Friends Of The Coach House Theatre, Malvern Town Council and Malvern Hills District Council the Festival, which also features exhibitions and workshops by the outstanding Artstrands group of artists, promises to be a social and artistic highlight of the year.
Featuring emerging and established writers, the Festival will provide an opportunity to enjoy a wide range of plays, talks and exhibitions in the friendly atmosphere of the Coach House Theatre. Converted from a two hundred year old grade 2 listed barn located in the centre of Malvern, the theatre has a large stage area, seats up to 110 and features state of the art lighting and sound systems. The recently extended courtyard and café will welcome visitors on performance days.
Starting on the 5 July with comedy “interactive” Shakespeare “You’re Bard! and Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” and continuing throughout August with new plays “Tales of Drake”, “A War Story”, “Me and My Shadow”, “The Last Free Rave” and “Behind The Door”, plus established shows “The Second Best Bed, “Mrs Churchill”, “ The Secret Life of Enid Blyton”, “Where is Mrs Christie”, “Saint Joan” and “the Rivals”. Talks include “The Worlds of JRR Tolkien” given by international authority John Garth and, of local interest, “150 Years of Theatre in Malvern” and an evening gathering of writers to discuss the influence of Malvern on their work.
