Green and white shop front

It was December 1975 when Mr Tony Atkinson first opened the doors of his new shop, here in Upton Upon Severn, and here they are 50 years later still trading.

A surveyor by trade, Tony’s avid interest in maps was sparked when his father returned home from war, bringing with him some maps of the battlefields and trenches; Tony was fascinated by these rudimentary early maps, and this began his life-long passion for maps.

He began collecting maps as a hobby then soon discovered that he had so many that he could afford to sell some.  This proved quite a success so, he took the plunge to open a Map Shop in Upton.  It was an instant hit.  Fifty years on we are still trading on the high street and have an ever-growing UK, European and world-wide customer base.

Aside from the Map Shop, Tony has for many years been a key supporter and Trustee for the Worcester Cancer Aid Charity.  He and his wife Joanna took it upon themselves to open a charity shop in their own building in London Lane in Upton, they both dedicated themselves to the charity shop every single Saturday for many, many years.

Throughout his life, Tony has been a key figure in the community, helping to run the local scouting group amongst other voluntary roles.  He has been an exceptionally loyal, generous and supportive employer of the lucky few to have served at the Map Shop.

Huge congratulation to the whole team at The Map Shop in making Upton upon Severn an amazing place to be.
